What do I need to bring for my first driving lesson?

Your instructor will need to see your driving license. If you require glasses, you must wear them as your instructor will carry out an eyesight check. You must be able to read a number plate at 20.5 metres. You should also wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

How many lessons will I need?

Everybody is different but on average learner drivers require approximately 40-60 hours training with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). It is possible you may complete your training more quickly, equally it may take longer.

What car do I use for my practical driving test?

You will take your driving test in the car you have been taking your lessons in or your personal car whichever you may prefer.

Can I use my own personal car for driving lessons?
After making an assessment in our Driving School vehicle’s, your instructor will decide whether training in your vehicle is a viable option. It is at the discretion of your instructor who will use his/her professional judgement to make their decision.

Can I wear sunglasses on my driving lessons and on my

practical driving test?
Yes you can wear sunglasses on both your driving lessons and test. However, as your instructor and examiner won’t be able to see your eyes it’s important that you move your head to demonstrate that you are conducting effective observations.

Do I have to of passed my theory test before I start lessons?

No, you do not need to have passed your theory test before starting practical driving lessons. However we recommend that you have read the Highway Code. This will provide you with additional information ready for your practical driving lessons.
